Activists painted three-storey high letters reading ILLEGAL on the hotel facade
The promoter of the controversial Algarrobico Hotel in Carboneras has put damages caused to the building by Greenpeace activists in a protest last Thursday at 150,000 €.

A group of activists, who arrived on the local beach from the organisation’s flagship ‘The Rainbow Warrior,’ spent a large part of last Thursday morning painting three-storey high gigantic letters on the Algarrobico’s façade: the Spanish word ‘ilegal - illegal.’

The protest was part of a Greenpeace campaign ‘Recuperemos el Mediterráneo’ – ‘Let’s Recover the Mediterranean.’ They say the sea is threatened by ‘overfishing, excessive construction on the coast, pollution and climate change’ and that just 1% of the Mediterranean is protected.
