The as yet unannounced date is brought forward with the publication later this week of the Environment Ministry valuation for the controversial hotel
The Junta de Andalucía’s environment councillor, Fuensanta Coves, has announced that the Environment Ministry’s valuation of the controversial Algarrobico Hotel in Carboneras is to be published this week. She said it means the hotel will be demolished sooner, but declined to give any estimate of a possible date.

The demolition of the Algarrobico was one of the subjects under discussion at a meeting in Seville between the President of the Junta, Manuel Chaves, and a delegation from Greenpeace España, led by their director, Juan López de Uralde. Coves and her colleague in the public works department, Concepción Gutiérrez, were also there.

Canal Sur reports that Chaves told the ecologists that the hotel cannot be sited in a protected natural space and that it would be demolished as soon as all the required legal guarantees are in place.

A group of activists from Greenpeace recently painted three-storey high letters on the Algarrobico’s façade, spelling out the Spanish word for ‘ILLEGAL’. The protest was part of their campaign ‘Recuperemos el Mediterráneo – Let’s Recover the Mediterranean.’
