The domestic violence court in Torrevieja has remanded to custody a 22 year old woman from Orihuela whose baby was found dead in a bag in her home on Sunday.

The woman, who has not been named in reports, was found by relatives bleeding at the side of her bed at her home in La Mata, Torrevieja.

Doctors in the district hospital determined that she had recently given birth, leading the family to discover the new-born baby beneath the mother’s bed. She was then put under Civil Guard custody in the Vega Baja hospital.

The Alicante newspaper Información reports that the custody ruling comes as a preventive measure, and that no further judicial action will be taken until the results of the autopsy are known.
