The PSN decision on negotiations with NaiBai and Izquierda Unida needs approval from national party leadership to go any further
The Socialist Party in Navarra, PSN, has approved a possible pact with the Nai-Bai regionalist party and the left wing coalition, Izquierda Unida, and has asked PSOE’s national federal executive to authorise it.

It comes a little over two weeks before the 18th August deadline for consensus on Presidency of the Region, with the possibility of new elections if agreement is not reached before then.

Talks between PSN and NaiBai broke down last month, with expectations that the Partido Popular in Navarra, UPN, may have to form a minority government as the most voted party.

The surprise decision by PSN’s regional executive was unanimously approved on Wednesday night, with reports however that the talks on forming a regional government remain open and nothing has been signed. El Mundo reports that presidency would likely go to the PSN candidate, Fernando Puras.

There was news from El País meanwhile that PSOE’s secretary for organisation, José Blanco, rejected a possible pact out of hand when he heard the news of PSN’s decision last night.
