There are hopes now that the fair, cancelled because of the strike, can now go ahead
The rubbish strike which has been affecting Almuñécar since last Friday was called off this morning, after almost three hours of negotiations between staff and management of the company with the waste disposal, contract, El Mirlo.

The meeting was held under the auspices of the Junta de Andalucía’s arbitration service, Sercla.

Agreement came after management finally decided to accede to the workers’ request to pay a large part of their unpaid salaries.
Almuñécar Town Hall told the EFE news agency that a shock plan will now be put into place to clear the mounds of rubbish from the streets: Granada City Hall had already offered their assistance in the clean-up operation.

There are also hopes now that the fair, due to start today, may now go ahead.
The Town Hall’s decision to cancel the feria celebrations led to protests yesterday evening, with the main N-340 coast road cut off on two occasions.
