The Town Hall has rescheduled the local celebration to start this Saturday through to 17th August after the rubbish strike was called off
The Almuñécar feria starts this Saturday, 11th August, two days later than scheduled, after the agreement reached between staff and management at El Mirlo on Thursday morning allowed the rubbish strike to be called off and the fair to be re-scheduled.

A shock plan went into place on Thursday to clear the streets of the more than 800 tons of rubbish which have accumulated since the strike began last Friday, the workforce numbers swelled by other cleaning staff contracted by the Town Hall and refuse workers and lorries sent by Granada and Motril.

The fair runs through until 17th August, which is also when El Mirlo starts paying out the unpaid salaries owed to their staff.
Ideal newspaper says local hotels put their losses from the strike at more than 350,000 €.
