A group of villagers began a hunger strike this weekend in protest at the decision to transfer their priest out of the village
The Andaluz Ombudsman, José Chamizo, says he will try to mediate with the Church against the Granada Archbishopric’s decision to transfer the village priest out of Albuñol. A group of villagers began a hunger strike in the local church at midnight on Saturday in protest.

Chamizo told Europa Press, however, that he sees achieving a change in the Church’s position as ‘complicated’ and believes that the Archbishopric is firm in its decision. He added that the Church has not infringed any regulations and has acted within its powers.

The village priest, 27 year old Gabriel Castillo, had been in Albuñol for two years and was known for his work in helping the less fortunate residents of the village.
