• Benidorm policeman confesses to wounding himself - Aug 23, 2007 - 8:46 AM
David Carvajal was shot after climbing across to the balcony of a neighbouring building to where he was staying on holiday in Benidorm
The family of the man shot by an off duty local policeman in Benidorm has said they are to start taking legal action against the local police in the town.
David Carvajal, according to friends, was drunk, and wearing just swimming trunks, climbed across to the balcony of a neighbouring building while spending the weekend with friends in Benidorm.
It happened to be the home of a local policeman who later reported the incident to the police who found the policeman stabbed and the intruder shot dead in the head.
The two friends have declared in court, but the instruction judge has imposed reporting restrictions.
A spokesman for Benidorm Town Hall, Antonio Pérez, told Información newspaper that now was a time of pain, and that respect for the family’s loss came above all else. The Town Hall has paid the travelling expenses for the family to come down from Madrid, but not, it’s understood, for the funeral.
The funeral for David Carvajal takes place at 11am today in Vilajoyosa.
