As Spain returns to the workplace, it's still not clear whether Post Vacation Depression actually exists
Today sees the return to work after the August break for many in Spain. A post vacation mood of depression flowing across the country.
One wonders if it is a real problem for society, or are we just lazy.
Psychologists tell us that such a depression is not an illness, merely another emotional process we all have to cope with, and that it all depends on how happy we are in the workplace.
Spanish psychiatrist Enrique Rojas tells us what to do in 20 minutos.es…
We must face the day with optimism and not be too dramatic about it.
We must think about work as ‘a necessary evil’ and consider the first day back as just another day.
We are advised to stay away from known pessimists who can affect our own mood more at such times.
Experts also recommend stress reducing techniques such as meditation or yoga.
Other experts, such as Jerónimo Sáiz, who is Head of Psychiatry at the Ramon y Cajal Hospital in Madrid, say that post vacation depression simply does not exist, because there is no clinical evidence for it.
As anyone who needs to something important in Spain during August knows, it’s often a practical impossibility as the country closes down for the month, especially in certain areas of public administration.
Now things are supposed to return to normal, but remember that as the tourist slogan first conned in the 60’s told us - Spain is different.
If you are back at work today, may it be a happy day and may you face the world with new enthusiasm.
