The pipeline will run for more than 200 kms between the two coasts
Work is due to start in Almería this month on the first stage of building the receiving terminal for a gas pipeline which will deliver natural gas beneath the sea bed from Algería to Spain, running for 210 kilometres between the two coasts, at a maximum depth of 2,165 metres.
Europa Press quotes sources in Medgaz, the consortium of five leading international energy companies set up for the project, saying that the pipeline which will carry the gas and which is manufactured in Japan and Malaysia, will arrive at Almería Port this month.
Work to build the gas compression station in Beni Saf, Algeria, started at the end of July.
The pipeline is due to come on line in 2009.
