They are demanding their wages for August and say the fault lies with the Town Hall
The Almuñécar bin men who were on strike in August are holding another demonstration on Friday, in a protest to demand payment of their wages for August. Granada Hoy newspaper said it starts at the municipal market at 12.30, and then goes on to Almuñécar Town Hall.

The staff say the company itself, El Mirlo, is not to blame for the situation, and say responsibility lies with the Town Hall for delays in paying their employer for the rubbish collection service. It’s understood the company has not been paid since May.

Miguel Quirós, president of the workers’ committee, spoke of rumours that the Town Hall wants to give the concession to another company.
While confirming that demonstrations will continue until the workers are paid, he rejected any possibility of another strike, and said the people of Almuñécar need not be worried on that point.

The week-long strike in August left more than 800 tons of rubbish on the streets of Almuñécar and delayed celebrations for the town’s annual fair by two days.
