The team gets the Silver medal after being beaten by Russia 59-60.
Spain lost the Eurobasket final last night. Played in Madrid the match against Russia ended 59-60.
The Spanish side, lead by star players Gasol, Navarro and Calderón had made the final after a spectacular win in the semi-finals against Greece.
Trainer Pepu Hernández, made it clear in the press conference after the game that he was very proud at what had been achieved, describing it as a ‘golden team’.
The Prince and Princess of Asturias were among the upset onlookers in the crowd.
The strongest image of the night, and the one which many Spaniards went to bed with last night, was that of star player Pau Gasol who had a key basket in his hands, thrown on the floor in tears, oblivious to the cameras.
