500 cars in Marbella saw their windscreens smashed by hailstones the size of golf balls

Heavy rain has brought chaos to Andalucia today, with roads and rail lines blocked. Several places in Sevilla Province, including Morón de la Frontera, Osuna and Montellano, have suffered flooding, while in Málaga province many inland towns and Marbella have reported huge hailstones which have broken the windows of literally hundreds of cars. It’s estimated that around 500 cars were affected in Marbella alone. 18 people were treated for injuries caused by the hailstones.

Linares in Jaén has been badly affected and the A 332 was blocked at Jabalquinto by flooding.
There were also serious problems in Granada City.

More than 30 litres per square meter fell in an hour in both Estepona and Antequera.

In Sevilla the Nervión district of the city was in grid lock after the traffic lights failed, and RENFE said it was using coaches to take passengers between Sevilla, Granada, Málaga and Almería as train lines were closed because of flooding.

The health centre at Coín in Málaga province has been closed because of the heavy rain in the Guadlahorce valley, and is now only attending to emergency cases.

Back on the coast in Puerto Banús, near Marbella, a family of four, including a child, had to be rescued after their car became trapped in an underpass and they could not proceed or reverse. Firemen were called to drain the water away.
