The cause of the death of the 14m long animal is being investigated
A 14 metre long Finback or Razorback whale, weighing an estimated 20 tons has appeared dead on the beach at Bolonia in Cádiz Province.
The mammal was first spotted at 1030 on Saturday morning some 200 metres from shore by a Civil Guard patrol, who alerted the coastguard. The whale was dying and had become caught up in one of the safety buoys at Bolonia beach and had several clear wounds.
The waves finally brought the body of the dead animal to shore where members of the CREA Andalucian Centre for the Recovery of Marine Species took over. They intend to break up the animal into pieces and to try to establish the cause of its death.
