The Prince of Asturias met the bodies at the Torrejón de Ardóz airbase overnight
The bodies of the two Soldiers to lose their lives in Afghanistan this week have arrived back in Madrid. The Prince of Asturias, Don Felipe de Borbón and Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, were on hand to meet the bodies on their arrival back on Spanish soil.
Germán Pérez Burgos, from Badajoz, and Stanley Mera Vera, originally from Ecuador, were killed along with an Afghan translator on Monday in the province of Farah when an explosive device was set off under their BMR military vehicle.
The same plane also brought three of the lesser injured in the attack back home. There were scenes of distress from members of the family who were waiting at the Torrejón de Ardoz airbase in Madrid as the coffins were carried from the plane, draped in the Spanish flag.
The funeral will take place at 1130 this morning and will be presided over by the Spanish King and Queen. It takes place at the base of the Parachute regiment in Jarama.
