Work on the 9.5 hectare park starts in San Pedro de Alcántara next week
Work begins next week on what will be the first eco park in Andalucía, on the site of the former plant nursery in San Pedro de Alcántara, and which will become a massive new green area covering 9.5 hectares.
Christened the ‘Parque Forestal de los Tres Jardines’, – the tres jardines part of the name reflects the three different types of garden which will be created there:
the smallest will be a 5,000 square metre Arabic garden, whose design has been researched from books surviving from the 11th and 12th century, and where water will play a large part, together with pomegranate trees, olives and fig.
The next, 14,000 square metres, will be planted with vegetation typical to Marbella, including jacaranda, orange trees and oleander.
The largest garden will be dedicated to the Mediterranean, 20,000 square metres of pine forest, shrubs and riverside woods, plus a ‘dehesa’ - 31,000 square metres of wooded pasture and meadow land, something which is typical to the Iberian peninsula.
The eco park is funded with 4 million € of regional government money and will take 36 months to build, with all the water used to keep its tens of thousands of plants and trees alive either recycled or rainwater.
