Spain has extradited the 65 year old Austrian author,
Gerd Honsik, so he can serve time in Austria for Holocaust denial.
The right wing author had denied the Holocaust and claimed that the Nazis never used gas chambers.
He was flown from Madrid to Vienna late last night to serve an 18 month prison sentence handed down against him in 1992, and may also face new charges under new laws passed in Austria, also in 1992.
Honsik was arrested in
Benalmádena, Málaga on August 23 on a Europol warrant issued by the Vienna public prosecutor’s office, having fled to Spain after his conviction in 1992.
Austrian Minister for Justice,
Maria Berger, spoke of ‘great joy over the effectiveness of the European Arrest Warrant, in dealing directly with Neo-Nazis’.
