The woman is in hospital after the orca dragged her down to the bottom of the pool

A trainer at the Loro Parque theme park on Tenerife is in hospital after she was injured this weekend during a training session with one of the killer whales at the centre in Puerto de la Cruz.

The Canarias 7 newspaper says it happened at the pre-show warm up on Saturday, when the orca crashed into the trainer, injuring her right lung and breaking her forearm in two places.

She was rescued by two colleagues after the mammal dragged her down to the bottom of the pool.

She is now said to be stable after surgery on Saturday.

The Loro park inform that the Orca did not attack, and that the collision with the trainer was accidental.

Yea I agree that what happen to the trainer was an accident I dont believe a Orca would ever hurt any one on purpis. Sure by the sound of the article it sounds like an attack but ya who knows what the Whale was thinking wether it was scared or just wanted to play but injured the trainer wile trying to play cause of the size of it. But yea I hope nothing happens to the whale after this cause I do believe it wasent its inteshion to hurt any one.

Sure by the sound of the article it sounds like an attack but ya who knows what the Whale was thinking whether it was scared or just wanted to play but to hurt some one I do not believe. And I hope the Trainer gets well and I hope there is no punishment for the whale over this accident. Submitted by some one who loves Orcas.

This was I think a collision but there's also a possibility that the trainer was very cruel to the Orca, animals cannot bear cruelty.

Thank you, Sincerely,

Elizabeth

Andy McLeod,

I love orcas too, but perhaps you should spend more time studying language rathern than whales. Reading you're 2 very similar posts has given me a headache from trying to make sense out of them!

I love orcas so much, And my favorite one is there in Loro Parque ! Her name is Kohana. But the injured trainer was 29 years old biologist Claudia Vollhardt from Germany. Claudia trained mostly with young male Tekoa and some news refer to him as the orca involved in this incident.
I don't actually think it was an attack, I agree it was an accident..

Killer Whale's are NOT cruel animals, especially when raised in captivity. BUT, we all need to remember that no matter how hard we try we will never be able to predict this mammal's behavior. They aren't called Killer Whales for no reason ;) Things like this DO and WILL happen.

whales should be left alone to get on with there lives. How whould you feel if someone came along and took a member of your family away from you.Greedy peaple who care more about money than anything else should be shot

yeah that's true but i'm still not completely against captivity, there are 2 marine parks that really care about their animals.. It's SeaWorld and Loro Parque.

I think we should kill the whale. I think we should cut it open and let the kids play around on the inside. That will teach those dumb whales to hurt people

Steve Michael, are you kidding? or just tryin to be funny? You are neither but a jerk. I'm pretty sure it was an accident. On the other hand, they are wild animals that need live in their natural habitat, not in a pool to satisfy people curiosity.
I love Orcas
31 May 2008, 22:24
You have to be kidding Steve. How cruel are you?!If anything the trainer probubly abused the whale.and orca lore.there called killer whales because to many peaple killed them in the past.it was a compleate missunder standing the proper term is Orca.

no,
you MUST kill the whale to teach it a lesson. or, like we do, threaten the baby orca with so that the mom behaves like it should....besides, they're just stupid fish - merely untrainable dogs of the sea.
they should all be killed if they continue to hurt humans.

ohhh,
they're Spanish orcas?
that explains everything....Jeez, we assumed they were Polish orcas.
