It has been revealed that the tyres of Fernando Alonso's car were overinflated during the last qualifying session in China
The Formula One circus off the track continues, with reports today that the FIA are now investigating whether the McLaren team acted against its own team mate, Fernando Alonso in China, in the fight for pole position.
It’s now known that the Spaniard’s tyres were inflated to a pressure seven times higher than normal, and this resulted in less grip and his surprising loss of seven tenths of a second with respect to his team mate Lewis Hamilton, who made pole position.
Until then Alonso had been the faster of the two drivers.
At the time, Alonso said that ‘Something must have happened in the car’.
President of the FIA, Max Mosley, who is reported not to be a friend of McLaren Mercedes team leader Ron Dennis, has ordered an investigation, according to ‘La Nueva España’.
It seems that devices to pre-heat the tyres for Alonso’s car had been set at more than 90 degrees, and this had caused the pressure difference.
