The find was made in Los Silillos in work to build the A-45 motorway to Córdoba
The remains of a prehistoric settlement have been uncovered in work on the A-45 motorway between Córdoba and Antequera.

The site is in the area known as Los Silillos, just 9 kilometres from Antequera.

Speaking to the EFE news agency on Tuesday, Antequera’s municipal archaeologist, Manuel Romero, said the settlement covers an area of 180,000 square metres, 4,000 of which have already been excavated.

He described the discovery as 52 underground structures which were part of the circular dwellings built by inhabitants of the area. Also found were farming tools, and copper tools which may have been used to build the dolmen burial mounds in Antequera. Málaga University has dated them at 2,500 years BC, although more precise carbon dating is to be carried out in Switzerland.

Fossilised ram horns and deer antlers were also found.

Los Silillos is the second find to be unearthed during construction work on the A-45, after the discovery in August last year of a second century Roman cemetery 2 kilometres away between Benamejí and Antequera.
