The Ministry says it will pay between 30 and 40 million € to expropriate the controversial hotel
The Environment Ministry has announced its offer for the controversial El Algarrobico Hotel in Carboneras, which has been halted by judicial order since February last year.

Antonio Serrano, general secretary for territory and biodiversity, told Europa Press on Wednesday that the Ministry will pay the constructor, Azata del Sol, between 30 and 40 million € to expropriate the building, and will start proceedings for compulsory purchase if the company does not negotiate.

Azata had previously said they wanted 200 million €.

Why does the government have to pay a company that has built an "illegal" building? They should be fined for building it in the first place!

I hope the site be cleared from rubble and building mess when the hotel is demolished. Or will it be left like a lot of abandoned dwellings and sites in Spain like a bomb site? In some cases the authorities makes things worse. They have to make sure its put back to its naturual state. Not a quick and easy job. Or it will be far worse than the hotel that is there now.
