Court stops extension to Vistahermosa golf course

A court in Cádiz has annulled council approval to enlarge the course and build more than 300 luxury homes

The planned extension to the Vistahermosa golf course in El Puerto de Santa María will not now go ahead, with a ruling from a court in Cádiz which has annulled the local council’s approval for the project, granted in 2004 by the previous local government.

The extension was to include 325 luxury homes.

The main reason given in the ruling issued at the end of September, and reported by La Voz Digital this Thursday, was the lack of necessary resources, in particular, water, which the Guadalquivir Water Authority has said it will not supply.

One of the complaints lodged against the project came from the environmental organisation, Ecologistas en Acción, who said it would seriously jeopardise a habitat important to the chameleon.
