The body of an 80 year old woman was found in El Vergel

At least two people have been killed as cloudbursts in Alicante province and other parts of the Valencia region led to severe flooding and damage on Friday.

Alicante Civil Guard found the body of an 80 year old woman who vanished last Saturday in El Vergel as a consequence of the heavy rains then. The body was found in her home, after the ground floor had flooded. Helicopters were needed to rescue other people in the town from their roofs. A total of 200 helicopter rescues were made in the north of Alicante province.

A woman who needed hospital treatment in Tárbena, died late Friday night, as she could not be reached by road or helicopter.

In some parts of Alicante province more than 400 litres of water per square metre fell.

El Mundo reports that the search is continuing for two people who are reported missing in Dénia and Calpe. Firemen rescued a woman who got trapped in her car in Calpe, and also evacuated a local campsite.
