The most likely date is now March 9
The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Chaves, has said that it is likely that the regional elections will be held on the same day as the General Election, and that date is expected to be March 2 or 9.
Speaking on the Cadena Ser radio programme ‘Hoy por Hoy’, he noted however that the March 2 date would be part of a long bank-holiday, because of the Dia de Andalucía on February 28, and that could have a negative effect on participation.
The Andalucian poll has coincided with the General Election for the last three times, since 1996.
Javier Arenas, the Partido Popular leader in Andalucía, has criticised the news, claiming that it deprives the Andalucian people of real debate.
