The London club had tried unsuccessfully to make the deal over the Summer

Juande Ramos, last night walked out unilaterally on Sevilla to become the new manager of Tottenham.

The London club are thought to have offered him a contract worth 6.5 million € net per year, for four years. He takes with him his assistant, Marcos Álvarez, with both of them leaving the Spanish club at around 10,30pm last night.

Tottenham tried to sign Ramos over the summer, but he said he wanted to complete his contract with Sevilla, which runs until June, but now it seems things have changed. He’s expected to sign the paperwork at Tottenham his afternoon.

Ramos is reported to have commented that this time the offer could not be turned down. He said that the Sevilla club was much grander than any single player or manager.

The relationship between Juande Ramos and the Sevilla Chairman, José María del Nido, has been key to the decision. The two men have never been particularly close, and it is reported that Ramos did not feel particularly supported by the club’s fans either. Last June Ramos refused to sign a new wage deal, which would have kept him at the club for two years on more pay, but only linked to results.

Spurs sacked their previous trainer, Martín Jol, announcing the decision on Thursday night after the side was beaten in the UEFA cup by the Spanish side Getafe.

Ramos has presided over the most successful time in the 100 year history of Sevilla Football Club, taking them to the UEFA Cup twice, the European Supercup, and the King’s Cup here in Spain.

The Andalucian side has currently suffered four consecutive defeats in the league.

The immediate replacement in Sevilla will be Manolo Jiménez, who has been doing some good work with the newly-promoted Sevilla Atlético.

The club's Chairman, José María del Nido said 'The King is dead, Long live the King'.

An indication of the anger among some of the fans at Juande Ramos early departure came as his web site was hacked and a page of insults placed online.
