The show has been seen already elsewhere in parallel exhibits, mostly in the United States

The controversial exhibition of plastic treated body remains ‘Bodies’ opened yesterday in Barcelona’s Museo Marítimo.

The show has already been seen in New York, London, Amsterdam, Washington and Lisbon, and shows 17 human bodies and more than 200 human organs. The idea is that the pieces show how the different systems work in the human body.

All the bodies are in fact Chinese people who were donated to the authorities there, where the bodies were prepared with chemical products to stop their decomposition. All the water was removed and replaced with acetate and then the organs were injected with a mixture of liquid cork silicone.

The bodies remain in Barcelona until January 13 2008.
