The railway company will run nine trains on the new AVE line on its first day of operation, 24th December
Tickets are now on sale on the Renfe website for the first day of the new AVE high speed link between Málaga and Madrid, 24th December.

The railway company has put nine trains in service for that first day, with the basic one-way online price set at 75 € 50 cents. The early bird on the 6.35 am train, which only goes on the Monday, gets the bargain price of 68 € and arrives in the Spanish capital three hours later. A later train at 11am is also priced at the lower rate, and goes on a daily basis.

Two of the six daily services in operation until the end of the year are direct, and reach the capital in 2 and a half hours.
Renfe gives no details of pricing for the New Year.

The Development Minister, Magdalena Álvarez, announced on Tuesday however, when she tested the new high speed line on a Talgo train, a price reduction down to 30 € 40 cents for one-way online bookings which are made at least two weeks in advance.

Renfe says it expects the new AVE service from Málaga to Madrid to double the current passenger numbers seen on the Talgo service. The new line is forecast to carry 1.65 million passengers in 2008 and two million in 2009.
