Construction of a railway tunnel damaged the local water table in this village which was famed for its springs
It’s understood that agreement has been reached between the railway infrastructure body, ADIF, and the Málaga village of Valle de Abdalajís, whose springs have run dry with construction of the AVE high speed rail line to Málaga.
Construction of a nearby double railway tunnel perforated the local water table, with 20 litres a second currently leaking into one of the tunnels, although that previously reached as much as 400 litres a second, according to the local Mayor, Alfonso García.
García told the EFE news agency that ADIF has undertaken to repair the damage, and will also supply the village with water until the repairs are completed. ADIF will spend a further 4.5 million € on repairing damage which has been caused to local roads.
The agreement is expected to be made formal this Friday.
