Judge Miguel Angel Torres, famous for instructing the Marbella Malaya Case, but now working in Granada, has ordered the Archbishop of Granada to pay a 3,750 € fine after finding him guilty of coercion and slandering a priest.

The judge in penal court 5 in the city, considered it proved that Francisco Javier Martínez was guilty of intimidating Javier Martínez Medina, to try to get him to stop the publication of a book on Granada Cathedral.

The archbishop will have to pay the fine at a rate of 10 € a day for 22 months on the charge of slander against the priest and 10 € a day for 15 days on the charge of coercion.

In court the archbishop defended the freedom of his actions as the person being responsible for the diocese, and claimed that he was the victim of a media campaign against him. On two occasions the judge had to call the archbishop to order and called on him not to be ‘so brusque’ with his answers.
