Services start on the line on Christmas Eve
More than 10,000 tickets for the new AVE high speed train service between Málaga and Madrid have already been sold, according to RENFE Spanish railways. Surprisingly perhaps the occupation level for the first day of the service, on Christmas Eve, remains only 25%, and there are spare tickets in both directions available over Christmas. Tickets went on sale on November 19.
RENFE says that the demand is good, and that it will continue to increase over the next three to six months.
Meanwhile the tests continue this week on the damaged tunnel in the Valle de Abdalajís using commercial trains for the first time. The tunnel was damaged during internal waterproofing at the end of October, but the ADIF railway infrastructure body is confident that it will be fully ready for service by Christmas.
