A consumers association has placed formal complaints against the hottest calendar of 2008 as an affront to the dignity of women
The consumers association, FACUA, has registered formal complaints against Ryanair’s new charity calendar, which the low-cost airline describes as the hottest calendar of 2008. It’s on sale on Ryanair flights and also over the Internet, and shows the company’s cabin crew in skimpy bikinis in poses which FACUA says are an ‘affront to the dignity of working women in general and, in particular, to cabin crew, by showing stereotypical images which the women in that profession have been fighting against for years.’
FACUA has placed complaints to the Employment Ministry’s Institute for Women and to the National Consumers Institute.
The Institute for Women, who describe the calendar as a sexist representation of women, responded in a press release on Tuesday that they will write to the authorities in Ireland on the matter via the Irish Embassy in Spain. They said they will take the case to the next meeting of the European Union’s High Level Group on Gender Equality, and will consult their legal department on what action can be taken.

Wow...It is unbelievable how bad news gets all twisted and turned on the
web...
I am in Spain. This issue was in "some" newspapers as a small news for one day. There is no "outrage" or "protests" or anything... Simply some consumer group that had an issue with it, a far cry from "Spain up in arms"....

Next, the bikini should be the only official dress code. ;-)

Spokesperson from Spanish Institute for Women pointed out that if the
calendar had contained images of men, there would have been no
discrimination issue. So, Irish, if you were cabin crew, and were prepared
to get your parts into skimpy revealing speedoes for constant comparison
with the other fellas, while you were working, then bring on the bikini as
official dress code. Peanuts, anyone?
