Álvaro, with accessories from the shop, poses naked for one hour every morning in the competition for the best decorated window in the province
A shop in Soria city centre, while it may not win first prize, is certainly the star of the show in the first competition for the best decorated shop window which is being run by the Soria Chamber of Commerce this month, where the store on Calle del Ferial has chosen a live display for its entry.
Álvaro, a young black man, poses in the window of the accessories store for one hour every morning, naked, with wraparound dark sunglasses and chains wrapped around his neck.
Marta Guerrero, who owns the shop, told EFE there is nothing sexist or racist in her chosen display. ‘We needed an idea which was different from all the others,’ she said, ‘ and we thought of Álvaro, my capoeira teacher.’ She said she’s had no adverse comments, and indeed it appears her stretch of pavement has become a regular stop for passersby and members of the media alike.
The jury will announce its decision on Friday on which of the 66 entries across Soria has been awarded the prize for the best decorated shop window of the province.
