smallerBy m.p. - Dec 15, 2005 - 11:05 PMThe Interior Ministry hope to stop the problem escalating as much in Spain as it has elsewhere in EuropeThe Interior Ministry has decided to launch a special police programme to address the problem of gangs of organised juvenile criminals.
The Ministry, while recognising that the phenomenon is a growing problem throughout Europe, hopes that their programme will stop it from growing in Spain as much as it has elsewhere.
The programme will include a ‘protocol of action’ for police officers involved in operations against the gangs, and a support system run by specialised departments of the Civil Guard and National Police for the gangs’ victims.
Three hundred people directly linked to the gangs were arrested in 2005, and another 2,000 members identified.
