Sarah Schulze was sacked from her job in Barcelona by a German multinational company
A transsexual who was sacked by the Barcelona province branch of a German multinational has received an out of court settlement for a claim she presented with the support of the union, UGT.
Sarah Schulze, whose name at birth was Matthias, told EFE the Tüv Rheineland Group sacked her from a management position in company offices in El Prat de Llobregat at the end of October, some months after she had informed her bosses she was undergoing treatment prior to a sex change operation. The operation was due to take place at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona.
Sarah is an industrial engineer, who had worked for Tüv Rheineland for more than a year without any problems.
EFE said she received 22,000 € in a settlement following her claim for employment discrimination.
