The winning number of 6,381 was sold in eleven Spanish provinces
The famous Christmas ‘Gordo’(the fat one) lottery in Spain sent millions of Euros across the country in one of the most evenly distributed top winning numbers in years. The fact that there are series of the same number, and that people generally buy a tenth of a ticket means that the number 6,381 was sold in many places from Madrid to Vic, to Bilbao, to Santiago, to Alicante as well as in the famous internet lottery sellers in Sort.
As every year there are many stories surrounding who has been lucky. Asturias was the most favoured region, and in the village of Nava, the 77 housewives who make up a local club ‘La Flor de Mayo de Llame’ have shared millions of Euros in the village. Four families from Estepona were also lucky sharing out 300,000 € between them, because one of them purchased a winning tenth of a ticket when on a pensioners outing to Alicante.
Luck finally came into the life of José Gadin, a painter who had to retire because he was left injured after falling in an accident at work. He purchased a ticket with the number of date the accident happened – the 6,381. Diego Muñoz from Motril purchased his winning ticket on the very morning of the draw and is now 100,000 richer at a time when his assets had just been embargoed following a failed business venture.
Lady luck can also be cruel. A priest in San Lorenzo de Zamora, Jesús Campos, told the local residents that he had dreamed the number 6,380 would win and therefore he purchased 30 series of that number. He sold participations for 2€ 50 across the village, but Sunday’s draw showed he was one number away, although in the Gordo that does give a small consolation prize.
