The early service on New Year's Eve was delayed by almost an hour
The teething problems have continued on the new AVE high speed line between Málaga and Madrid, with the early train from the Costa del Sol capital at 7.10 am on New Year’s Eve delayed by 55 minutes. It means that passengers will have the full ticket price refunded by Renfe Spanish Railways.

The same service on Boxing Day arrived in the Spanish capital 40 minutes late, and another train later that day was delayed by 1 hour and 40 minutes. Passengers told El Mundo newspaper the 2pm service on 26th December was stopping and starting on the stretch between Málaga and Córdoba, that the TVs did not work, and there was no water in the bathroom taps. They also said the oven in the cafeteria was broken.

Renfe are currently refunding half the ticket price for 15 minute delays, and the full price if the train is delayed by more than half an hour. Refunds on established services are made in full if the train arrives more than 5 minutes late.

Europa Press said 93.7% of the two new AVE lines which opened in December – Madrid-Málaga and Madrid-Segovia-Valladolid – have reached their destinations on time. One of them was the inaugural journey on the Málaga line on 23rd December, which had the Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, on board: it reached Málaga ten minutes ahead of time.
