The manager of the lottery office which sold the winning number bought a ticket herself and says she will be able to retire. The President of the Partido Popular in Castellón won 2 million €
First prize in the special national lottery draw held in Spain on 6th January, known as ‘El Niño,’ has gone to Castellón de la Plana, in Valencia’s most northerly province, where all tickets carrying the winning number of 87657 were sold. It brings with it a prize of 2 million € per series – 200,000 € per décimo, the tenth part of a ticket which is generally bought by most people.
It’s a total of 110 million €, spread out over 55 series of the same number. The manager of Lottery Office No. 3 in Castellón de la Plana was one of those who bought a winning décimo, and shares her winnings with a friend. She says it means she will be able to retire this year.
Some locals say they will be able to pay off their mortgage, while others plan a holiday abroad. Another who Lady Luck smiled on was Carlos Fabra, President of the Partido Popular in Castellón province, and also President of the Diputación Provincial - the provincial government. According to reports in the press this morning Fabra, who is under investigation for alleged tax fraud, bought 10 décimos for El Niño and won 2 million €.
The Castellón lottery office sold fourth prize in the special Christmas lottery, El Gordo, drawn last month.
The second prize of one million per series went to Reus in Tarragona: 50 million € for décimos sold for the number 71098 in Lottery Office No. 6 in the city. Much of it went to nearby Bisbal de Falset, where a regular customer of the Reus lottery office sold on décimos which El País said brought her customers in an estimated total of 15-20 million €.
