The guild president said the trawlers' catch could drop by 30%
The local fishing guild in Dénia are concerned that the natural gas pipeline which is planned to connect the mainland with the Balearic Islands from Dénia could mean the loss of their livelihood for some of the fishermen.

Speaking to EFE, the Dénia guild’s President, Juan Antonio Sepulcro, said the plan to run the pipeline along the sea bed, and not buried as the fishermen want, would effectively cut fishing grounds in half. He said it could mean a 30% loss in catch for the fleets of not only Dénia, but also of Calpe, Xábia, Gandía and Cullera, with some of the fishermen no longer able to survive.

Sepulcro suggested loading and unloading depots in Dénia and Ibiza to take the gas over the sea by boat.

I have read about the fisherman´s concern with this gas pipeline. I work in the offshore oil and gas industry and we specialise in burying pipelines using mass flow excavation and we do not touch the pipeline at all. Where the fishing grounds are we can easily bury the pipeline so the top of the pipe is one meter below the seabed level. If anyone is interested please contact me and we can put a proposal forward.
