The AVE will go via Córdoba from the second half of February, cutting journey time by 35 minutes
Rail journey time between Málaga and the Andaluz capital, Seville, will be cut down to less than two hours from the second half of February, once the new AVE high speed service comes into operation. The Development Minister, Magdalena Álvarez, announced on Tuesday that the trip will be completed in one hour and 55 minutes, down from the current two and a half hours.

Prices have yet to be announced, but it is known that there will six trains a day in each direction, via Córdoba. A direct service will come into operation at a later stage.

There was meanwhile news from Europa Press that delays on the new AVE services – Madrid-Málaga and Madrid-Valladolid – have cost Renfe Spanish Railways 135,000 € in compensation in their first month of operation. It was paid out to 3% of their passengers – 4,230 people - for delays longer than 15 minutes.

The Minister said the Málaga service is now operating 98.74% on time within the 15 minute delay period, and Valladolid 98.33%.
