Four thousand people turned out to elect the winner in Las Palmas last night
Friday night saw the gala to elect the year’s carnival queen in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and amongst all the Greek goddesses the winner emerged as 21 year old Iraya Viera, whose massive costume was certainly linked to the sea, and not surprising really when you know the winner likes to dive in her spare time. The winning costume was called ‘Las Palmas Mon Amour’.
More than four thousand people attended the gala held in the Santa Catalina park as an early carnival gets underway this year. There were 12 finalists in the gala, a transsexual and a physically handicapped contestant among them.
Colombian pop star Juanes provided the musical interlude.
