The Spanish national coach has refused to select Raul to play, and was met at the Málaga AVE train station by 500 fans shouting the name of the Real Madrid Captain.
The refusal of the Spanish national football team manager, Luis Aragonés, to include the Real Madrid Captain, Raul González, in the selection has been criticised by many for some time. Aragonés recently lost his cool when challenged about his decision on a recent radio programme, but the manager must have still been surprised to see some 500 Raul supporters chanting his name at Maria Zambrano railway station in Málaga when the team arrived there from Madrid on the AVE high speed train earlier today.
Other players such as Casillas, tried to distance themselves from the controversy, but he admitted he would like to see his Real Madrid teammate in the national side. The team is taking the train as part of a RENFE sponsorship deal. Fans also have collected outside the team’s hotel ahead of the friendly game against France on Wednesday.
Speaking in Málaga when asked what he would do if his successor was named before the Eurocopa, he said that there had never been a national team with two trainers. He told the Cuatro TV station that the Spanish Football Federation, and President Ángel María Villar, had been leaking information saying a new trainer would be appointed before the European Championship.
