Police were called in when pickets tried to stop a trial at the Ciudad de la Justicia
The court officers’ strike in the Murcia Region is now in its second week and is, according to unions, reaching 93% support. The Justice Ministry put the figure at 50.17%, EFE reported on Monday.

There were incidents in the Murcia ‘Ciudad de la Justicia’ on Monday morning, where pickets tried to stop a trial which unions said did not fall within the minimum services in place for cases which are seen as urgent. Questioning in the Totana Operation Totem corruption case in the Murcia High Court of Justice last week was suspended after pickets protested that it, too, was not covered by minimum services. The man due to be questioned in the TSJM was Juan Morales, the ex Partido Popular Mayor of Totana, and he will be called in again once the strike is over.

José Cánovas, spokesman for the CSI-CSIF union, told EFE that National Police were called in to remove pickets from court No. 7 at the Ciudad de la Justicia this Monday morning, when the judge refused to suspend the hearing.

The strike is taking place in Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, La Rioja, Baleares and Asturias, as well as in Murcia, where the court officers want their salaries brought in line with staff in other Spanish regions where responsibility for the justice system has been devolved.
