The driver was seriously hurt when he drove on the wrong side of the motorway and crashed head-on into another carThe Alicante Civil Guard are investigating whether a driver who killed two people in a head-on collision on the
A-70 motorway on Sunday was trying to commit suicide. He was driving on the wrong side of the motorway, and EFE said the Civil Guard say he had been doing so for a number of kilometres.
The accident happened at kilometre 17 near
Mercalicante at 2pm on Sunday. A 54 year old couple died outright when he crashed head-on into their car, and a motorcyclist was also seriously injured.
The driver himself needed emergency surgery and is under police custody in hospital, where his condition is described as serious but satisfactory.
