The President of the Junta de Andalucía met the Cortés family this weekend to show his support and his hopes for Mari Luz's safe return

The Cortés family say they are against a poster campaign launched in Spain by the McCann family which shows images of four year old Madeleine alongside their daughter, Mari Luz, who disappeared in Huelva on 13th January, and others pictured with Yeremi Vargas, who was seven when he disappeared from Gran Canaria last year.

Mari Luz’s father, Juan José Cortés, said after a meeting with Manuel Chaves, President of the Junta de Andalucía, this weekend, that, while he is not against collaborating in the search for Madeleine and ‘even helping to draw up a poster of all the missing youngsters,’ the lines of investigation into the disappearance of the two young girls are distinct, and are being carried out in two separate countries. EFE said he is considering taking legal action for using his daughter’s image for the campaign.

The news agency noted his comment that the press in Portugal is reporting that the cost of the poster campaign is being met with 4,000 € from each family.

Juan José Cortés said after the meeting with Chaves, ‘the President has understood the pain we are suffering, and this type of meeting helps us to at least feel we have the support of the administration.’

why would they be against it? everybody sees madeleine's picture, and it provides Mari with amazing publicity. If it werent for the McCanns nobody would even know mari's name.
Go ahead, sue them for helping your daughter.
I think somethings wrong with those parents. My sympathies lie only with Mari.

It has been over a month since Mari went missing. Why,why would you seperate from the McCann's??? They are only trying to help.I know that Spain's government is different than Portugal, but you should unite and help one another. Yes,each case is different. The McCann's were at the Tapas, but they were checking on the children every half hour. Apparently you weren't watching Mari when she went to the kiosk to go get chips. You say she would never cross the street. But children do. So as far as I am concerned you are just as guilty for not keeping your eye on Mari.Just as the McCann's are guilty for not taking the kids with them when they went to the Tapas. You are only human. Things do happen and it is sad. I would join together with anyone who would put my child's picture out.I pray for all three families.Have the authorities checked out the artist named Hollingsworth out in Cap Tossa.

I wonder how true this report is, tomorrow the very same newspaper will report how these 3 families are supportive of each other, and are excited about these posters.

Anything to sell a newspaper!

I can understand the family. The two cases are completely different. The Mcanns will do anything to re-enforce the abduction theory.

Statistically more parents are responsible for child deaths than sex peverts.

It's obvious why they would not wish to be associated with the McCanns.

The father of Mari-Luz has accepted that he and all his friends and family should be considered suspects.

He has urged everyone to let the police get on with their job.

That is in very stark contrast with how the McCanns have behaved.

As far as I can gather, the Cortés family were upset that no-one had even thought to ask their permission to use their daughter's photo in the campaign. By the way, KB, Mari Luz gets almost daily coverage in the press in Spain, and there have been demos in many Spanish cities for her release - so it's certainly not a case of if it weren't for the McCanns no-one would even know her name!

Yeremi's mother has also said the same in the past, that the cases are completely different.

I can't believe these people would not want to be associated with the McCanns
whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty . The McCanns can not defend themselves until the Arguido status is lifted. I can't see why people see no connection to both abductions are you all blind folded a couple of hours drive away from each other ..... come on !!!!!!!!!!
