María Teresa Fernández de la Vega tells the El Mundo newspaper that she has not married a girlfriend in secret
Spanish Deputy Prime Minister, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, has denied that she is a lesbian. ‘At last someone has asked me’, she told El Mundo, adding that if she was she would have no problem in saying so.
The question has arisen after an item circulating on the Internet claiming that she had married in secret with a television sports presenter. Previous reports had her married off to a doctor and another to a friend, but she remains the single woman.
She told the paper that her mother had always wanted to see her married off, but for her happiness was 'being alone on her sofa, with a little music, without having to listen to anybody, and with the phone not ringing'.
In an interview published in El País on Saturday, the Deputy Prime Minister underlined that ‘Under no condition will be return to dialogue with ETA’.

Oh my Goodness! I totally thought she was a lesbian! Knowing how hip Spain
is, and the social policies implemented as of late; I mean, c’mon how
cool would that have been? Not only is she Deputy Prime
Minister/Vice-President for the Government, a woman, but also a purported,
but now obviously debunked not so lesbian. I’m a bit disappointed. I
remember when ZP announced her appointment she was a high court judge or
some other judiciary officer for constitutional affairs and rumored to be
lesbian, but not. But Fernandez de la Vega does have a point, if she were
Lesbian -- I don’t think she’d have a problem going public about the
issue.
