New head Bishop in Spain invests in Viagra and contraception drugs

Viagra is made by the Pfizer company

Antonio María Rouco Varela, the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid and Francisco Gil, Archbishop of Burgos, have investments in the Pfizer pharmacutical company at the rate of 80,000 Euro a year

As Antonio María Rouco Varela, the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid has been re-elected to lead the Bishops and the Catholic Church in Spain, it has been revealed that he and another Spanish bishop have been investing in Viagra and contraception.

The Cuatro TV channel reports that the Archbishops of both Madrid, Rouco Varela, and Burgos, Francisco Gil, have made investments in the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, at a rate of 80,000 € a year. It seems the investment has been made without any personal conflict as the church continues to preach against the use of contraceptives, while Pfizer makes an inject able contraceptive, Dep-Provera used by 30 million women worldwide.
However with the recent crisis over sub-prime mortgages, it is reported that the Archbishops have lost some 20% of their investment.

It comes as a row has erupted in Granada where an association funded by the church’s Opus Dei group, has started to give courses to women in the city, so they can become a ‘mujer diez’ – a ten out of ten woman. The Alfaguara Association instructs women on how to sew to turn up trousers, make a good tortilla, and know what how go shopping ‘intelligently’.
The row comes because the association has received a grant from the Partido Popular controlled City Hall, and left wingers IU have denounced the case saying it promotes stereotypic roles which are ‘discriminatory against women in the 21st century’. March 8 is the International Womens’ day.

In Murcia meanwhile a new sex shop which has opened opposite the parish church of San Nicolás has been ordered to close by the City Hall.
It comes after a local resident complained that the establishment advertised that it had ‘sex cabins’. and it was later found the establishment had opened without an opening licence. The owners say they have applied for a licence from the City Hall, but they have not responded, although they say inspectors came from the council last week to see that regulations were being met.
The shop has been open since last Valentine’s day.
