1,400 bodies have so far been recovered and another 12 graves could remain to be found
Work is continuing in Málaga on exhuming remains of thousands of Civil War victims from mass graves in the San Rafael Cemetery. It was previously thought that there were 18 such graves at the site, but now Francisco Espinosa, President of the Málaga Historical Memory Association, says military documents show the number could be as much as 30.

The painstaking process of exhuming the remains began in October 2006 and, since that time, EFE said, more than 1,400 bodies of the 4,300 which are known by documentary evidence to be buried there have been recovered. The work is being carried out by technicians from Málaga University with the assistance of volunteers.
