The attacks on commuter trains in Madrid took place on this day in 2004
José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Spain’s acting Prime Minister, will come face to face with the leader of the PP opposition Mariano Rajoy today, for the first time since the poll, at a ceremony in Madrid to commemorate the anniversary of the Madrid train bombings, which took place on this day in 2004.
Floral wreaths will be laid at the stations where the bombs exploded, there will also a ceremony in the Puerta del Sol, and a new monument will be inaugurated outside Coslada station.
The AVT right wing association of terrorism victims has arranged demonstrations across the country in all the provincial capitals at 8pm this evening.
March 11th is now also designated as the European Day for the Victims of Terrorism.
Meanwhile more than 2,000 victims of the Madrid train bombings four years ago have now received their compensation payments.
