She was told she must honour a cheque for 30,000 euros, the last of the regular payments he made to his mistress
A widow has been told by a court in Seville that she will have to honour a cheque her late husband made out to his mistress, one in a series of regular monthly payments he made to her, and the last he made before he died. It is dated in November of 2003 and is made out for 30,000 €, EFE reports.

The man’s widow had cancelled the cheque upon her husband’s death, but now the court has ruled it proved that he and the mistress had a long-term relationship and the money must be paid. The widow escapes payment of two other outstanding cheques for 2,000 and 3,000 €, as they were drawn on the business account and were not authorised by the co-owners of the company, his children.

Ahh, good old fashioned mediterranean adultery. Looks like only the rich can afford it, though! Has anyone asked the wife if she knew about the affair? I bet she did.

Typical of socialist Spain these days. Does the institution of marriage mean anything any more? I'll bet the judge would stop payment his wife would make to her lover.
