Golf courses, hotels, thousands of new homes and a marina, all of it covering 21 million m2
Council meetings in Águilas and Lorca on Tuesday have both approved amendments to their local development plans, the PGOU, as one of the steps necessary to allow a project for a massive development project to go ahead, which falls within the boundaries of both municipalities.

It is the Marina de Cope development, which will cover an area of 21 million square metres, a third of it on the coast of Lorca and the remainder in Águilas. La Verdad newspaper reports that it is designed in line with environmental regulations, with low-density construction no closer than 500 metres to the shoreline. Marina de Cope envisages some 20 hotels, 9,000 homes, five golf courses and 10 football fields.

Added to that is a marina with 2,000 berths. It’s expected to create thousands of jobs.

There was some opposition to the amendments: in Águilas from PSOE and Izquierda Unida, and in Lorca, also from IU, while PSOE abstained in the vote. La Verdad said the Lorca Socialists had supported the project until now.

We would like to request your help in saving Cape Cope Regional Park, located on the pristine, Mediterranean coastline of Southeastern Spain. The task at hand is the prevention of an impending ecological disaster if Murcia’s regional government allows protections to be lifted and encourages construction within this natural space

The judicial authorities in Spain are studying the modification of the regional law, which permitted the declassification of the protected area of the Regional Park.

Marina de Cope is a ilegal development. Marina de Cope is a big fraud and a High-risk investment
